![]() ![]() How is the Institute funded? The Institute is funded from many sources. The significant source of funds continues to be commercial sponsorships such as the annual grant from Bayer Healthcare Corporation. The Institute also receives grants to support specific projects, enters into agreements with client organizations to develop and implement communication improvement programs, and sells materials to organizations conducting its programs. The Institute charges tuition for its faculty development courses and other training programs. The Institute is able to charge fees substantially below those charged by other organizations becuase many of its programs have been developed with grant support from commercial sponsors and foundations. What is the relationship between the Institute and its commercial sponsors? The Institute is an independent not for profit corporation legally incorporated as a private operating foundation in the state of Indiana. The fiduciary responsibility for the Institute rests with its independent Board of Directors. By law and policy the Institute does not engage in any commercial activity to further the financial interests of its commercial sponsors. Why do commercial sponsors help fund the Institute? The commercial sponsors derive their capacity to thrive and prosper because of the support of the health care community. Through their long-term financial and organizational commitment to the Institute, the sponsors seek to be recognized for their contributions to health care that go beyond the development, manufacture and distribution of health care products. They seek recognition as active participants in improving health care through a variety of activities. How does one become active in the work of the Institute? Faculty members of the Institute are active in the development, conduct and distribution of Institute courses in health care organizations. Faculty members are trained to engage in coaching their peers, creating and implementing strategies for organizational change, and influencing the curricula of health profession schools and residency programs. Faculty members are clinicians who are interested in and committed to the improvement of health care communication. They have the support of their organizations to engage in improvement activities.
