Animal Medical Center - 2003 Cohort
The Animal Medical Center (AMC) is a not-for-profit comprehensive veterinary teaching hospital located in New York City. Over 80 veterinarians, a third of whom are board-certified specialists, treat over 40,000 patient cases each year. The hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to providing the highest quality veterinary care for companion animals, The AMC investigates naturally occurring disease in companion animals to enable more effective diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment and prevention. The AMC provides superior learning opportunities in veterinary clinical sciences, through Internship and Residency Programs for graduate veterinarians and a Veterinary Technician Internship Program, in addition to externships to senior veterinary students and continuing education programs to practicing veterinarians. Along with patient care, educational programs and clinical research initiatives, AMC has pioneered a Counseling Program, which provides support to owners of ill pets and bereavement counseling for family members who have lost their beloved companions. Counselors also teach communication skills and stress management to interns and residents. In addition The Counseling Department offers the Pet Outreach Program, which brings carefully selected volunteers and their pets to nursing homes, as well as programs for emotionally and physically disabled adults and children. AMC is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for companion animals and their families.
