Sine, Laurie, and Noodle, MSW, JD - Cohort 2008
Laurie Sine, MSW, LMSW, Esq., joined the Animal Medical Center as a social work intern in 2006 and stayed on as a counselor in June 2007. Laurie counsels pet owners and families whose pets are being treated at The AMC or who have recently passed away.
She finds cases in the waiting room and accompanies owners during their visit with the veterinarian. She runs a biweekly pet loss group, which is open to the public. She also coaches veterinarians to improve communications skills. In addition Laurie works with all employees regarding stress from work or personal issues. During orientation of new interns and residents she teaches stress management.
Laurie is an active member of The AMC’s Pet Outreach Program, as well as a R.E.A.D program. She and her toy poodle, Noodle, visit vulnerable adults, as well as children who work with a tutor on their reading. She helped evaluate and document the effect of the Pet Outreach program on those we visit.
Laurie has made several media appearances. Recently she appeared on “Underdog to Wonderdog,” where she counseled a couple whose dog had just died. They were trying to decide whether it was time to get a new pet.
