Hendrix, Charles, DVM, PhD - Cohort 2008
Dr. Charles M. Hendrix is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He received his BS in Preprofessional Studies from Clemson University in 1974, his DVM from the University of Georgia in 1974, and his PhD in Veterinary Parasitology from the University of Minnesota in 1981. For the past 28 years, Dr. Hendrix has been a faculty member of the Department of Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Auburn University, Alabama. Dr. Hendrix has received the Norden Teaching Award twice, and the Auburn University Student Government Teacher of the Year twice – once for the College of Veterinary Medicine and once for the Graduate School.
Dr. Hendrix has been active in promoting the integration of veterinary medicine into the U.S Department of Health and Human Services’ health promotion and disease prevention document, Healthy People 2020. His students have won over $50,000 in award monies from writing competitions emphasizing this integration. He received the DHHS Secretary’s Certificate of Merit from DHHS Secretary Donna Shalala. From 2002 to 2003, Dr. Hendrix served as an AVMA Congressional Fellow in Washington, DC. From July 2006 to July, 2008, Dr. Hendrix served as Vice President of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Hendrix has been married to his wife Rebecca for over 35 years. They have one daughter, Charlotte . . . and one “grandcat,” Zinka. For recreation, Dr. Hendrix enjoys driving his vintage 1940 Chevrolets.
