Townsend, Wendy , DVM, Diplomate ACVIM - Cohort 2007
Dr. Wendy Townsend is an assistant professor of comparative ophthalmology at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Townsend earned her veterinary degree at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama in 1995. After three years of private, mixed-animal practice in western New York State, she completed a small-animal internship at Purdue University in 1999. She then spent one year as a clinical instructor in veterinary clinical sciences at Purdue, before beginning her residency in comparative ophthalmology. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Purdue in July of 2003 and was certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in August of 2003.
Dr. Townsend’s particular interest is equine ophthalmology and her research involves development of an equine artificial lens and infectious corneal disease. In her spare time she and her husband Jon, a dairy practitioner and nutritional consultant, have two little girls who are very eager to add to the arsenal of family pets. They currently have a horse, Tyler; dog, Bubba; and cat, Genny.
Dr. Townsend looks forward to emphasizing the communication skills during lectures and clinical clerkships. The examples, tips, and techniques have already proven beneficial during interactions with students, other team members, and clients.
